The Touro College Auditing Internship program is one of America's most ambitious programs for audit stewardship and public service. The purpose of the Touro College Auditing Internship program is to provide gifted and highly motivated students with first-hand experience in the process of internal auditing in both an academic institution and a non-profit organization. By participating in audit reviews in the various departments, interns gain a sense of personal involvement in the audit procedures. Selected individuals will spend six months to a year working as an intern in the Internal Audit department.
Engagement in the work of the College lies at the heart of the Auditing Internship. Work assignments can offer unparalleled experience working with senior administration officials on emergent issues and challenges. The audit assignments demand a capacity for quick learning and a willingness to work hard, often on issues outside of their area of expertise.
Responsibilities range from:
- Gathering and analyzing data for internal audits by conducting interviews, sophisticated audit and financial research and writing and downloads;
- Creating risk matrices;
- Performing testing as outlined in the Control Risk matrices;
- Drafting audit reports for presentation to the Internal Audit stakeholders;
- Researching laws, regulations, District policy and standards;
- Assisting in the implementation of recommendations from internal audit;
- Communicating results of internal audit to stakeholders;
- Establishing quarterly audit plans and audit programs;
- Following-up on audits and organizations for implementation of recommendations;
- Chairing inter-department meetings;
- Designing school policies.
Interns Testimonials:
- Working with you during summer definitely helped me to be more confident in myself when presenting myself in front of the professionals, Sabine. I remember when I had interview with you, you told me that I came in with no preparation, which was true since I didn't know what I was getting into haha. But going through that with you and you honestly telling me about those things really helped me Sabine. Opening up to you to talk about my concern was the biggest help this year. I cannot thank you enough for the lessons you taught me!

I would like to say thank you for giving me the wonderful opportunity of working with you. I enjoyed all the projects during this 13 months. Your support and understanding help me grow. I cannot pass the CPA exam without your support.

I would like to share with you about my good news: I got the full-time return offer from PwC and passed FAR this August. Thank you for all your coaching last fall. I always tell my friends, classmates and colleague in PwC how much I have learned from this internship. Not only the technical skills but also some details like one-page printing format helped me get used to my work in PwC very well! I would say that working for you is a good preparation to get into big four.
---- Belinda (Fall 2014 Intern)
- Several schoolmates did consult me about my experience at Touro and I told all of them I definitely recommend the place. It’s all about real internal audit experience instead of support or administration functions!... But I am so happy to get two offers before leaving school. I think my hard work has paid off! I still remember one of the interview questions during the second round on-site interview with E&Y. They asked about what control deficiencies we identified for the accounting policy project. Both of companies like and value my experience at Touro!
